Are designer items ever worth the price?

I've always been torn on this, luxury bags, shoes, and watches can cost a fortune, but some people swear they're actually investments. I've seen influencers talk about their Chanel bags or Rolex watches going up in value, and I've noticed platforms like The RealReal or Vestiaire Collective make it easy to resell.

Has anyone here actually made money flipping designer items? Or do most of them just lose value once you've worn them a few times? Curious how people see the balance between fashion and finance here.

I've dabbled a bit in flipping designer bags, and honestly, it's a mixed bag. Some pieces, like classic Chanel or certain limited-editino sneakers, can hold or even increase in value if you keep them in great condition. But most items definitely drop the second you start using them. I've used resale apps that make it easy to list and track prices, which helps, but it still feels more like a hobby than a guaranteed investment. It's fun if you love the style and can spot pieces that are in demand, but I wouldn't rely on it as a serious way to grow money.

I've actually sold a few pieces on The RealReal and Vestiaire Collective, and while I didn't make a huge profit, I was surprised how well some items held their value, especially classic pieces like Louis Vuitton or Rolex. Trendy stuff tendst o drop fast, but timeless designs can hold up if you take care of them. I also use an app like Rebag to check resale value before buying anything expensive, just to see if it's worth it long-term. It's kind of like mixing fashion with a bit of investment strategy.

If it means something to you or something that you always wanted, I think it is worth it, no matter the price tag. As long it comes from your hard-earned money.
