To have a budget in order to live you must be living within your means. I have found a budget is a series of data sheets and summary sheets showing expenses on everything you spend money on by category. If you start out living within your means, even if very close to spending over income in a year, but have some leeway, studying the data sheets done by year can lead you to saving money on things you can save money on. As expenses go up and income may not go up, or even may go down a little, you can see where you can cut spending and explore ways to save on many things. If you spend 2 years updating the data sheets daily, weekly, and monthly, by then end of the 2 years you will see exactly where the money is going and why. At that point you will see there are many ways to tweak what you spend on most things. Use this method to keep your head above water.
