Thinking about starting an online business, but my brain's stuck on repeat: Shopify? Etsy? TikTok Shop? Or should I just clear out my garage and dump it all on eBay? For anyone who's been through it-what's the best place for a total beginner to start?

I've been thinking about starting something online, but honestly have no clue where to start. Has anyone here done it? I'd love to hear how you got staretd and what challenges you ran into.

If you just want to test the waters, eBay's the easiest way to start. Etsy works better if you're making handmade stuff, and Shopify is more for when you're ready to build a full brand. What kind of things are you thinking of selling?

Honestly, I've been thinking the same thing lately. The idea of starting something online feels exciting but also a little overwhelming because there are so many options out there. From what I've seen, the hardest part is just picking one direction and sticking to it long enough to see results.

If you don't mind me asking, are you leaning more toward selling products, doing freelancing, or maybe digital services? I feel like the path depends a lot on what skills or interests you already have.

Honestly, I've been there-so many options can give you decision paralysis. If you just want something simple and low-risk, eBay or even Facebook Marketplace is easy to test the waters. Shopify feels more "official," but it takes more setup and effort to get traffic. TikTok Shop could be fun if you like making videos, but it's a bit trend-based. What kind of stuff are you thinking of selling?

Picking an idea feels a lot like scrolling Netflix-you spend forever browsing bu tnever hit play. I'm leaning more toward freelancing or digital work since it's easier to start with skills I already have, but selling products is still tempting. Which direction are you leaning?

Haha, I love that-Marketplace really does feel like the training wheels of online selling. I'm still not sure what I'd sell yet, probably something small and low-risk just to get the hang of it. Did you kick things off with random stuff from around the house, or jump straight into more 'real' products?

I’d say start simple. Etsy or eBay are great if you just want to test things out without too much setup. Shopify is good but can feel like a lot if you’re brand new. TikTok Shop works if you like making videos and don’t mind being on camera. What kind of stuff are you thinking of selling?

Totally ge tthat-there are so many options now that it can feel overwhelming! The best platform really depends on what you're selling and how involved you want to be. Shopify is great if you want full control and plan to grow a brand, while Etsy works well for handmade, creative, or niche products since it already has a built-in customer base. TikTok Shop can give you quick visibility if you're comfortable creating short videos and hopping on trends, and eBay is still solid for quick sales or reselling without much setup. If you're just starting out, try listing a few items on Etsy or eBay first to test demand before committing to a full store. What kind of products are you planning to start with?

Honestly, it depends a lot on what you're selling and how hands-on you wnat to be. Etsy's great for handmade or creative products, Shopify gives you full control if you're ready to build a brand, and eBay's perfect for testing the waters with stuff you already have. If you just want to experiment, starting with eBay or TikTok Shop could be a low-risk way to learn the ropes before committing. What kind of products are you thinking about selling? That might help narrow it down.

I started out selling a few things on eBay just to test the waters, and it was honestly the easiest way to get a feel for online selling without a big setup. Once I got more confident, I moved to Shopify to build my own brand and have more control over everything. f you're into handmade or custom stuff, Etsy's great for that community vibe. TikTok Shop can work too if you're comfortable making short videos-it's surprisingly good for exposure. I'd say start small, learn what sells, nad then scale up once you've got the hang of it.

For a total beginner? Start simple.

eBay or Etsy are easiest since they already have traffic - no need to build a brand right away. Shopifys better once you know what sells. TikTok Shop can work, but its more content-heavy.

If youve got stuff already, eBay first. Learn the basics, then scale from there.
